Configure your new thebat.net account in The Bat!

  1. Open The Bat!
  2. In the "Account" menu select "New..." item to create a new mail account.
  3. Enter the name of mail account that will be used by The Bat! We recommend you to use your name as the account name. If you already have another account with that name, you can alter the account name to be distinctive, e.g. "John Smith at thebat.net"


  4. Enter your full thebat.net email address (including @thebat.net) in the appropriate field and click Next.


  5. Select the POP3 protocol.
  6. Enter pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com in the Server address fields.
  7. Check the box next to My SMTP server requires authentication for sending mail. Leaving this box unchecked may result in an error while sending out mail.


  8. Enter your full thebat.net email address (including @thebat.net)
  9. Enter your thebat.net password in the appropriate field. It is the same password that you have assigned to www.ritlabs.com website.
  10. Do not check the boxes "Leave copy of messages on the server" since thebat.net doesn't support this feature. Checking this box may cause your messages to be retrieved only on the first POP3 session. Subsequent sessions may no retrieve the messages that have already been retrieved.
  11. Do not check "Use secure login method (APOP)" since thebat.net supports TLS protocol for security, not "APOP".


  12. When you will be prompted to check all account settings, check the box next to Yes and click Done. The Account Settings page appears.


  13. In the Account Properties window, select the "Transport" page.
  14. For "Send Mail" and "Receive Mail", select "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)".
  15. After you have selected "Secure to dedicated port", the numbers in the Port fields will automatically change 465 for "Send Mail" and 995 for "Receive Mail".
  16. Click the OK button.


  17. Please also make sure that you have activated you thebat.net account via the web interface.
